In 1960, at the time of its opening, Bob's
Resort consisted only of a Convenience Store that sold general
merchandise, groceries and gas. Shortly thereafter, the area
became known as a hotbed for fishing and the bait business began to
flourish. As more and more people
began traveling to the area for fishing, the need for travelers to stay over night was met when Bob's Resort opened its first motel in 1964.
Operated by Bob Smith and wife Norma, the business began to grow again in the early 1970's. To accommodate motel patrons, Bob's Steakhouse was built and began its ongoing reputation of famous char-grilled steaks. In 1983, with its popularity growing, Bob's Steakhouse moved into a larger building that was built next door to the motel.
As the years passed and the times changed, so did Bob's Resort. In 1995 Highway 212 was re-routed and the need for relocation was apparent. A portion of land was purchased overlooking both the 212 bridge and Whitlock Bay. In 1998 the resort was moved to its new location and has remained there ever since. What once began as just a small convenience store has now emerged into a business consisting of a steakhouse, motel, cabins, bait shop and convenience store, 60 unit RV campground with full hook-ups, 60 unit mobile home park, boat storage and much, much more.
